I've recently applied for reissue of my parents' passports. While there is information available on the passport site http://passport.gov.in/cpv/obtain.htm, it is not very organized. Here I try to organize that information and provide some extra details which might be necessary for applying for a new passport or reissuing an existing passport.

General Procedure

Having applied for a marriage certificate today, I am documenting the procedure here so that it is useful for someone. I got married according to the Hindu Marriage Act and the details given here are mainly applicable for this Act. A few days back, Jaago Re! One Billion Votes movement hit a milestone of 300,000 online voter registrations. Is this a significant number? You decide:

Government of India has developed an 'Online Grievance Forum' at http://pgportal.gov.in/. Can you imagine this is happening in INDIA?

The govt. wants people to use this tool to highlight the problems they faced while dealing with Government officials or departments like Passport Office, Electricity board, BSNL/MTNL, Railways etc. Many of us say that these things don't work in India.

Here is an interesting conversation between Ramu and Shamu. Shamu is apathetic towards politics and Ramu is actively involved in spreading awareness related to it. In the below chat, Ramu tries to answer some of the basic and most important queries related to elections put forth by Shamu.

As per 135B of Representation of People (RP) Act, persons who are eligible to vote (i.e. those whose names are present in the voters list) and are residents of the constituency where elections are being held, are eligible to take a paid leave from their company for casting their vote. In other words, every citizen has the right to tell their boss that they are going to vote on the election/bye-election day and they cannot be denied their pay for that day.
