Nokia Symbian S60 SIP Clients
Here is a list of some of SIP clients for Nokia S60. Kindly note that these are generic SIP clients and not bound to any SIP provider as such.
- Tivi – Tivi is perhaps my favourite softphone. It is available as a free download and I believe the authors intend to keep it this way. Moreover Tivi is perhaps the only softphone which can directly call an IP address without registering with a SIP provider (though I couldn’t hear the opposite person when I tried this feature).
- Fring – The main disadvantage of Fring is that it routes all SIP calls through its own proxy server. So there is latency for calls made using SIP.
- Adore Softphone – To use Adore Softphone, you will first have to register your device’s IMEI number. Then you can proceed to download it. Ascent Telecom’s Endura Mobile Dialer and REVE Systems’ Itel Mobile Dialer Express are similar to this but they are not available for free for end-users.
- Talkonaut – I did not try this but I think this works based on callback.
- s60voip – An open-source software, this is yet another SIP client to be explored. The major hurdle in using it is that you will have to sign this application by visiting https://www.symbiansigned.com in order to use it.
There are other mVoIP clients such as Truphone, O-FONE, etc. which all use the SIP protocol but they do not allow configuring other SIP providers and are bound to their services. There is a possibility though that these products may in the future enable to configure other SIP providers.
Lastly if you are likely to use mobile VoIP extensively, you may consider buying a Nokia handset which comes with a built-in VoIP client. (See References below).

A Small Story
Once upon a time there lived a king. The king had a beautiful daughter, the princess! But there was a problem Everything the princess touched would melt. No matter what; metal, wood, plastic- anything she touched would melt. Because of this, men were afraid of her. Nobody would dare marry her. The king despaired. What could he do to help his daughter. He consulted his wizards and magicians. One wizard told the king, “If your daughter touches one thing that does not melt in her hands, she will be cured.”
The king was overjoyed. The next day, he held a competition. Any man that could bring his daughter an object that would not melt would marry her and inherit the king’s wealth. Three young princes took up the challenge. The first prince brought a very hard alloy of titanium. But alas, once the princess touched it, it melted. The prince went away sadly.
The second prince brought a huge diamond, thinking that diamond is the hardest substance in the world and surely, it would not melt. But alas, once the princess touched it, it melted. He too was sent away disappointed..
The third prince approached. He told the princess, “Put your hand in the bag and feel what is in there.” The princess did as she was told, though she turned red. She felt something hard. She held it in her hand. And it did not melt!!!
The king was overjoyed. Everybody in the kingdom was overjoyed. And the third prince married the princess and they both lived happily ever after.
But The Question Is : What was the object the prince had in the bag?

Blog Action Day 2010
Blog Action Day is a day on which bloggers from all over the world blog about a particular topic impacting our society in order to spread awareness about it. The topic for 2010 is “Water”.
Here are some interesting facts which I got to know through them:
- Unsafe drinking water and lack of sanitation kills more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.
- More people have access to a cell phone than to a toilet.
- Every day, women and children in Africa walk a combined total of 109 million hours to get water.
- It takes 6.3 gallons of water to produce just one hamburger.
- The average American uses 159 gallons of water every day – more than 15 times the average person in the developing world.
So let us make sure that from now on we do our best to use water judiciously. And for those who think a dripping tap is not a matter of concern here is one more fact – “A dripping tap could waste as much as 90 litres a week.” So start doing your bit in saving water.

The Success Of Marriage
Once upon a time a married couple celebrated their 25th marriage
anniversary. They had become famous in the city for not having a single conflict in
their period of 25 years.Local newspaper editors had gathered at the occasion to find out the secret
of their well known “happy going marriage”.Editor: “Sir. It’s amazingly unbelievable. How did you make this possible?
”Husband recalling his old honeymoon days said:
“We had been to Shimla for honeymoon after marriage.
Having selected the horse riding finally, we both started the ride on
different horses. My horse was pretty okay but the horse on which my wife
was riding seemed to be a crazy one. On the way ahead, that horse jumped
suddenly, making my wife topple over.Recovering her position from the ground, she patted the horse’s back and
said “This is your first time”. She again climbed the horse and continued
with the ride. After a while, it happened again.. This time she again kept
calm and said “This is your second time” and continued. When the horse dropped her third time, she silently took out the revolver
from the purse and shot the horse dead!!I shouted at my wife: “What did you do you psycho. You killed the poor
animal. Are you crazy?”.She gave a silent look and said: “This is your first time!!!”.”
Husband:”That’ s it. We are happy ever after “

Men Who Follow Wife’s Words
Men on earth die and go to heaven. God comes and says, “I want the men to form two queues one Line for the men who dominated their women, and the other one for the men who were dominated by their women. Also, I want all the women to go away so that no man and woman can talk.”
Next time God comes back, the women are gone, and there are two lines. The line for the men who were dominated by their women is 100 miles long, and in the line of men who dominated their women there is only one man.
God gets mad and says, “You men should be ashamed of yourselves. I created you in my image, and you were all whipped by your mates. Look at the only one of my sons who stood up and made me proud. Learn from him! Tell them, my son, how did you manage to be the only one in this line?”
The man replies, “I don’t know, my wife told me to stand here.”

No Fruits, No Sweets, No Worries!
Ok. Here is a quick question – What do you offer to God if there are no fruits and no sweets at your home? Think … think … no idea? Here is what my sweet intelligent wife Veena had to offer:
Oh yeah, those are chocolates and they are not just any chocolates but Italian Ferrero Rocher. Now why didn’t anyone think of this before? 😉

Fake Kingston 32 GB Pen Drive
Recently a salesperson turned up at our office proposing to sell Kingston 32 GB pen drives for a very cheap price (Rs.1200 each). He claimed that he had stolen some of them from the port when the shipment arrived. We were not interested and so did not purchase any of them.
As soon as he left, we did a google for the actual price of Kingston 32 GB pen drive. What we came across was a large number of articles mentioning about fake 32 GB Kingston pen drives.
These fake pen drives are actually 512 MB – 2 GB. The packing is exactly like that of Kingston. And when you copy a huge file to the drive, it shows as if the file got copied successfully. Therefore people got fooled easily. The best way I can think of to check whether the pen drive is genuine or not is to copy a huge file to it and compare the md5sums of both the original and the copied file. If they are the same, the copy was successful.
I again went down and looked for the person but he had already left. I think we have to be very careful when purchasing products which come for an extremely low rate.
Another interesting thing which reflects here is the human psychology. Below is an article reg. these fake 32 GB pen drives where almost all the employees of the company ended up purchasing it. It would be interesting to see how many of these employees would be willing to steal these pen drives (given that they would not be caught) from the shipment directly. I am sure many of them wouldn’t be willing to do such a thing. But yet they might not even had given a second thought when purchasing them even when they were told that they were stolen :).

Integrating iJab with Roundcube
Integrating iJab with Roundcube is a good solution for having web based Mail+XMPP (jabber) client. Steps for configuring iJab can be found on its website. Here I shall mention how you can integrate both of them:
- Below is a sample html file for loading both iJab and Roundcube together:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <!-- The HTML 4.01 Transitional DOCTYPE declaration--> <!-- above set at the top of the file will set --> <!-- the browser's rendering engine into --> <!-- "Quirks Mode". Replacing this declaration --> <!-- with a "Standards Mode" doctype is supported, --> <!-- but may lead to some differences in layout. --> <html style="height: 100%; padding: 0; margin: 0; border: none;"> <body style="height: 100%; padding: 0; margin: 0; border: none;"> <iframe style="height: 100%; width: 100%; padding: 0; margin: 0; border: none;" src="/roundcubemail-0.4/"></iframe> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" src="/ijab-v1.0-beat3-2/ijab_config.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" src="/ijab-v1.0-beat3-2/ijab_i18n_en.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" src="/ijab-v1.0-beat3-2/ijab/ijab.nocache.js"></script> </body> </html>
- Further to auto login to iJab when you enter username and password in roundcube webmail as well as auto logout when you logout from roundcube, download my Roundcube iJab plugin, extract it to roundcube “plugins” folder and add “ijab” to the list of roundcube plugins in “main.inc.php”.
Previously I had used a dirty hack of modifying skins/default/templates/login.html file as I did not know how to write roundcube plugin then. If you had modified that file earlier, then I suggest you revert those changes and use the above plugin instead. - BONUS: Logout shortcut for iJab. Add the below shortcut to /ijab-v1.0-beat3-2/ijab_config.js:
{ href:"javascript:iJab.logout()", target:"_self", img:"/ijab-v1.0-beat3-2/ijab/images/logout.png", text:"Logout" }
You can download logout.png here
