My First Smartphone - Motorola Fire XT530

At last, I get my first smartphone - Motorola Fire XT530 which is based on Android. And this was a gift from a very close buddy of mine - Srikanth. He wanted to gift me something for my marriage, and I put it off till my second anniversary as I wanted his gift to be something very memorable. And this has proved to be a really wonderful gift.

I was inclined to buying an Android based smartphone ever since I've heard about Android. I looked at a lot of budget (Rs.8000 - Rs.14000) Android phones such as Dell XCD35, Samsung Galaxy Ace, HTC Wildfire, HTC Wildfire S and LG Optimus One. There was some shortcoming in all the models such as low battery life, small screen size (<=3.2 inch) or bad camera. I almost decided to go for Samsung Galaxy Ace when I came across Motorola Fire XT530.

The Motorola Fire XT530 had everything I needed - decent battery (1540mAh), 3.5 inch capacitative touchscreen, 5 MP camera with LED flash and Android OS v2.3.4. This model has been recently launched in September. I have been using this phone for more than a month now and I am just loving it. At times, the response is slow, but it is quite acceptable. The only real drawback I feel in this phone is its limited internal memory of 157 MB. This pretty much limits the number of applications that we can install in phone memory. While most of the applications can be moved to SD card, unfortunately some of them cannot. Using Link2SD, it is possible to use the external storage device for extending internal memory.

Hey. How long u hav been using this fone..?
is it still working fine..? plzz suggest..!! shud u i buy it..? i hav a budget under 10k.
plzz do rply.. :)

Like I've already mentioned above, the main issue with this phone is limited internal memory. If you are planning to install many apps, then that might pose a problem. For storing songs, pictures and videos it is not a problem as you can store them on external memory card.

Apart from this one issue, the phone is awesome for its price. And with the recent android upgrade for it, it is super responsive and has great battery life.

If you do buy this phone, I strongly recommend that the first thing that you do is upgrade the android version and then reset the phone. This is to avoid a problem related to calendar that arises due to upgrading android version. See for more information on this issue.

Thanks for sharing your experience with moto xt530. This phone has all the features I am looking forward in my first android device and I almost daily search internet for the user experiences and reviews abt this device and try to convince myself to buy this phone. The only thing I have found bad abt this phone that stops me from buying this device is its battery drain issue. though it has a good battery pack but according to some people its battery constantly drains even when not in use due to which it becomes hot and battery backup also decreases considerably. have you faced such issue? does android 2.3.5 upgrade solves this issue?

I would appreciate your reply

The battery performance has definitely improved after the upgrade. I am sure about it. And I also read similar feedback from those who upgraded it. In my opinion, the main drawback of this phone is its limited internal memory of 157 MB.

It's a quite good smartphone. I've used it but I need a special software that can spy on cell phone and this applications can't be installed on this devices. So I've had to change a cell phone.

My dad has this phone. He is seeing an issue with the phone. I am away from home never took a look at what the phone looks like and where the settings in the phone are. I would appreciate if you can help us resolve the problem..

-Issue description:
Incoming emails(gmail account is set up) are going to all items. So incoming email notifications are not received.
Outgoing emails are not showing up in sent items. Instead those are showing up in outbox even after successfully sending the email. This is not giving an hint if the email is successfully sent.

How to fix this issue.
Will restore factory settings help? i am afraid the personal data will be lost.
any alternate way of doing will be so much appreciated

I am sorry I cannot be of much help. However, here are some tips:

- Check Gmail filters to ensure that incoming mails are not skipping Inbox
- Restoring factoring settings will help only if you are sure that it is a problem with the Android Gmail app.
- You do not need to worry about data loss for restoring factory settings. There are many tools which will help you to backup your phone settings and data before doing a factory reset. Once you perform the backup, you can factory reset the phone. The entire procedure might take some time. So, just evaluate if this is really needed.

Also, there are many android forums (you can google for them). Posting your queries over there is much better as you will suggestions from experts and many other users.

haha, i am still using this phone :P :D.. btw awesome past it was bro. And also consider seeing the Top 5 tips to save android battery . its very effective :)
