A priest was being honored at his retirement dinner after 25 years in the parish. A leading local politician and member of the congregation was chosen to make the presentation and give a little speech at the dinner. He was delayed so the priest decided to say his own few words while they waited. "I got my first impression of the parish from the first confession I heard here. I thought I had been assigned to a terrible place. The very first person who entered my confessional told me he had stolen a television set and, when stopped by the police, had almost murdered the officer.

Overtime, I realized that in life, there is always a possibility for the lesser likely to happen. It is this possibility which helps me to be prepared for failures even in the most favorable circumstances. It is also this same possibility which helps me hope for success even in the most adverse situations.

All Is Not Lost!

A 10-year-old boy decided to study judo despite the fact that he had lost
his left arm in a devastating car accident. The boy began lessons with an
old Japanese judo master. The boy was doing well, so he couldn't understand
why, after three months of training the master had taught him only one move.
"Sensei," the boy finally said, "Shouldn't I be learning more moves?" "This
is the only move you know, but this is the only move you'll ever need to
know," the sensei replied. Not quite understanding, but believing in his
teacher, the boy kept training.
